Scrap Dowry, Says KNCHR
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights wants dowry scrapped, saying it perpetuates gender-based violence. Assistant director Loise Munala said bride price is the main cause of violence in most families. “Instead of paying dowry, men should just give a token of appreciation to the girl’s parents for the tender care and education of their daughter,” she said.
