RINGING THE BELL FOR INCLUSION OF RURAL WOMEN IN KENYA

  • News

On March 8th, UN Women in partnership with UN Global Compact Network Kenya, Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), rang the Opening Bell in Ruiri, Kiambu County in celebration of the International Women’s Day and Gender Equality.  The Nairobi Security Exchange is a signatory to the WEPs and has been hosting the annual Ring the Bell Event for the past 3 years in demonstration of their commitment as private sector to gender equality at the workplace, market place and in the community.

The forum brought together over 60 women entrepreneurs majority small scale dairy/horticulture and poultry from 3 constituencies namely Gatundu North, Lari and Ruiru with the main aim being advancing the financial inclusivity of rural women with focus on introducing participants to alternative investment options beyond the contemporary investment of disposable incomes in buying pieces of land which remained idle after purchase -thus becoming a dead asset. In so doing, they get to increase their financial security and wealth creation.
