
MDG 3 Youth Photojournalism Awards Night
Ms Zebib Kavuma, UN Women Country Director presented Essay first runners up Naigha Ethel Otieno her prize.
The MDG3 Youth Photojournalism awards took place on 5th December at the Alliance Française Nairobi. It was a brilliant night where the winners received their prizes and the guests got to walk around, and appreciate photos and essays hanging on the exhibition wall.
“We are not too far from the 2015 deadline, and we need to act in a much accelerated mode” Said Dr Custodia Mandlhate, WHO representative. Dr Custodia, the chief guest of honor further added that we all need to build on the Kenya’s positive achievements and use the existing potential for advancing the targets of goal 3 by taking advantage of new opportunities and partnerships. Other speakers included Nyambura Ngugi (JPGEWE), Zebib Kavuma ( UN Women Country representative), Francis Munwoki ( Standard Media) and Erik Winther-Schmidt (MDG Unit, Ministry of Devolution and Planning) who all spoke on importance of promoting young women and men’s voices in the discussion on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Nicholas Wambua won the best photo Francis Munywoki , Business Development and Innovations Director, Standard Media group announced the photo winner. Nicholas won a camera and internship with the Standard media.
And the winner is… Diana Wangira Dr Custodia MANDLHATE WHO Representative/Kenya announced the essay winner. Diana won a Samsung tablet and internship with the Standard newspaper
