Kenya’s continued Committment to CEDAW: 8th Periodic Report review

Kenya’s high-level delegation, led by Mrs. Sicily Kariuki, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs, to the 68th Session of the Committee on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) presenting Kenya’s 8th Periodic report on 2nd November at UN offices in Nairobi. She was accompanied by experts in all sectors covered by CEDAW. The constructive dialogue between Kenya and CEDAW committee is about updating the committee on any important developments within the scope of the Convention, with respect to the adoption of new laws or polies and establishment of new mechanisms for the advancement of women in Kenya.

“Kenya attaches great importance to the convention since its ratification in 1984.” Said the CS, Mrs. Sicily Kariuki. “Kenya’s Constitution values and principles governance, which include equality, equity, respect for human dignity, inclusiveness and non- discrimination, continue to be the country’s anchor and campus for realization for gender equality”  

The review was exceptionally done by video-conferencing from UN in Gigiri as normally sessions take place in Geneva.
